Meeting #11 Intro to the club & Shark Physiology

HUGE thank you to Ph.D student Aaron Hasenei for giving us a glimpse into his research looking at epaulette shark physiology in the face of climate change

Some highlights from the talks included:

  • Learning about Aaron’s interesting academic journey from physiology/sports sciences to marine biology

  • Getting an inside look at some of the methods he is using in his research, including liver biopsies, morphometric studies, respirometry, and so much more!

  • Hearing the argument for why epaulette sharks are a great indicator species for assessing physiological adaptations in sharks as a whole with the current climate scenario predictions

  • Getting an introduction to the Rummer Lab in preparation for this semester’s lab tours!
