Fins On Wheels Fundraiser
What are we fundraising for?
We aim to raise enough funds to transport up to 40 epaulette sharks (Hemiscyllium ocellatum) from the Heron Island Research Station to the National Sea Simulator a the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS).
We will hear from PhD candidate Sophia Emmons as she shares her research and how epaulette sharks cope under changing environmental conditions. She will explain why studying these particular sharks in the National Sea Simulator is so important to better understand the physiology of these unique and fascinating creatures.
Featured Speaker!
Next, hear from JCU Master’s Student Miriam Zanforlin about the work that goes into raising baby sharks and how neonate epaulette sharks are impacted under increased temperatures.
Afterwards, partake in a hands-on egg taking workshop.
Raffle & Prizes!
100% of proceeds go towards our goal of raising $1,000 to transport the epaulette sharks.
$5 per ticket, $20 for 5 tickets.
Prizes range from winning Sophias very own art print, reef-themed merch, and more for as little as $5… and don’t forget a chance to name a new born epaulette shark at the Rummer Lab.
